What Goes Where

Your PC runs three applications:-

  • The Flight Simulation
  • Motion Drive 3.0
  • FSUIPC

Data from the simulation is passed via FSUIPC to Motion Drive 3.0. It is processed into drive signals for your platform and sent out via USB #1 module.

The signals for each drive are sent separately from USB #1 to the three DAC modules (#1, #2, #3) which convert them from digital signal to an analogue control voltage.

Meanwhile control and reverse signals are also being sent out via USB #2 module to the Intermediate Control Board. The control signals are passed to each DAC (shown as green connections) in turn. The DAC needs these signals to tell it to convert the drive signal received from USB #1.

The resulting analogue control voltage is sent out from each DAC to the intermediate board where, along with the reversing signal it is sent out to each Motor Control Board (MCB). The MCBs then act to control the speed and direction of each of the drives (Drives A, B & C).

At the same time, the sensors on your platform are switching in and out as the platform moves. These switching signals are passed back to your PC via the Intermediate Control Board and USB #2 for Motion Drive 3.0 to process.

Where it all fits

The products we sell form a key part of the drive control chain of your motion platform. But where do they fit in? What other parts and components do you need?

To help with those questions, the diagram below shows how the Motion Drive 3.0 package, the Digital to Analogue Converter Board and the Intermediate Control Board fit together to form the drive control chain.

Parts we can supply Parts we do not supply
- Motion Drive 3.0 software - Your PC and FSUIPC
- USB modules - Flight simulation software
- Digital to Analogue Converters - MCBs, Drives & Power Supply
- Intermediate Control Board - Platform Sensors
- Advice and Support - USB hub and cables

Please note:- The drive and motor control board need to matched to each other, whether you are using electric motors (AC or DC), pneumatic or hydraulic drives.
